Minnesota's energy policies must reflect a balance of
long-term goals and short-term needs, maximizing both
conventional energy sources like oil, gas, and nuclear power
and viable alternatives such as bio-diesel.
Generously subsidizing ethanol production is not a
long-term solution nor is it smart for our energy,
environmental, or economic policies.
We should explore the possibilities of building an oil refinery
in Minnesota to help ease the burden of oil capacity. Since
no refineries have been built in the US since 1976, a
refinery here could be part of a short-term energy solution
as well as bring jobs.
