To the editor:
I am proud to support Jan Schneider, the endorsed Republican candidate for the House seat
currently held by Neil Peterson. Before the convention, I spoke with a few Republican friends
who claimed that if we didn't support the incumbent, we risked losing the seat to the DFL.
To that I say we've already lost the seat to the DFL. In fact, according to the Journal of the
Minnesota House, Neil Peterson voted with the DFL and against Republicans 52 percent of
the time.
In addition to voting for the $6.6 billion transportation tax and the Twins stadium tax, Peterson
authored a bill to extend the state sales tax to clothing; he supports a Constitutional
amendment to raise the sales tax by another three-eighths of a percent; he supported
in-state college tuition for children of illegal immigrants; he voted to further regulate
Minnesota's economy by capping greenhouse-gas emissions; he originally opposed eminent
domain reform, and he even signed on initially as co-author of a statewide gun-registration
bill.
Because of his votes, nearly every Republican legislative survey ranks Peterson at or near
the bottom among Republican state legislators.
Jan Schneider is a true conservative leader who will fight for Minnesota's citizens by
controlling spending and eliminating wasteful programs, improving the quality and
accountability of our government without raising taxes.
With Neil Peterson, we have already lost our House seat to the DFL. With Jan Schneider, we
will win it back.
