To the editor:
We ran against Neil Peterson for the 2004 Republican endorsement in House District 41B.
Neil argued very strongly to both of us that ignoring the Republican endorsement was
divisive, disloyal and bad for our constituents. After five ballots, Neil won - and we did not
oppose him in the primary.
This year, Neil lost the Republican endorsement by more than two to one on the first ballot
and announced his intention to go to the primary against party endorsement.
Four years later, instead of taking his own advice, Neil dismissively rejects the Republican
endorsement as just the opinion of a few people who don't matter.
We stood aside for Neil in the 2004 primary based on the principle that the people of our
community, through their elected delegates, had spoken with their endorsement.
Today, we stand against Neil not only on this same principle, but because Neil has voted
against the interests of all 41B's taxpayers in repeatedly raising our taxes while dismissing
the principle of fiscal accountability as "mere dogma."
This is why we proudly endorse Jan Schneider for State House. We've known Jan for years
and we trust her experience and her character. We know Jan's principles will put this district's
taxpayers first and vote on positions accordingly.
Beware of politicians who denounce principle as "mere dogma." That usually means the
politician finds principle inconvenient and you can never know where they really stand.
